MOTIER stands up for establishing modern elephant husbandry in protected contact. To achieve a high standard, I can advise and guide you, how to implement the necessary individual steps in your facility. This includes the use of modern animal training methods, the training of your staff and the evaluation of the enclosure design. Finally, not only the elephants and keepers will benefit, but also your visitors, who will get an insight in transparent animal husbandry at the highest level.

  • Analysis of the current state and development of an individual concept for your facility
  • Support in the implementation of necessary steps:
    • Positive reinforcement training
    • Herd management; introduction of elephant bulls into a herd of cows;
      integration of calves, old animals, bulls and new arrivals
    • Preparation of a transport and accompanied transportation
    • Birth management
    • Practical and theoretical instruction of the staff in positive reinforcement training with bridging stimulus (clicker); ropeworking: knotting, splicing, netmaking
    • Consultation concerning construction measures (training wall/area) and enclosure design
    • Consultation in training to achieve certain husbandry goals like trunk wash, pedicure, blood draw and other veterinary interventions, artificial insemination
